The Marketplace facilitates resources trading with other players, the higher the level the more transactions can be done at any given time. The currency is in gold, and maximum transaction size at the marketplace is 10 million.
The market is a method of trading goods to anyone on any server without having to use transporters or workers. Listing goods at a price higher than market value allows the order not to be automatically accepted by the next bidder.. thus goods can be "traded" above market value without having to use men to transport them.
The market can also be used as a bank. To do this it needs to be level 4. Simply sell all your resources at the going price and then buy them back (fees applied will not be returned). However, do not put your resources up for sale just before you are about to be plundered, and then expect to get them back by canceling the offer after the attack has landed. This does not work and the attacker will take those resources.

As early cities expanded so did the trade between farmers, artisans, and craftsmen who lived in the area which contributed to the economy of the city. It soon became apparent that a central location, or marketplace, where the people could meet and buy or sell their goods was the best way to conduct trade. As a city's marketplace grew and became more active, the economic vitality of the city grew as well.
